Each year, Anglers of Honor volunteers head into the pristine and privately owned waters of the Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club to help dozens of wounded veterans and people with an array of physical disabilities and their caregivers reconnect with each other, with a larger community, with nature — and with themselves.
This year, our organization hosted five fly-fishing excursions from May through October. Participants came to us from our nonprofit partner, the River Deep Foundation, which is aligned with our mission. The foundation seeks to help military veterans and other individuals who have experienced physical, emotional or psychological trauma heal and re-engage in life through adventure, recreation and a network of support. The foundation works in collaboration with an alliance of complementary nonprofit organizations, such as Anglers of Honor, to share resources, knowledge and ideas with the goal of providing more efficient and effective programming and outreach. Participants in River Deep Foundation events are referred by Fort Carson’s Soldier Recovery Unit, Operation TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital and Veterans Administration hospitals.
These are just a few of the many photos we took during this year’s outings:
